It can actually grow two feet in a single day reaching lengeths of 100 feet. The long hollow stipes are havested, cut in 1/4 inch segments and pickled.<br /><br />Recipe for pickling:<br />2 quarts vinegar<br />1 quart water<br />2/3 cup pickling salt<br />1/4 teaspoon dill weed<br />1 clove<br />1/4 teaspoon garlic salt<br />Combine ingredients. Heat to boiling. Pour over one quart kelp. Pour kelp into sterilized jars. Allow one week for kelp to pickle.<br />I add onions and tomatoes for color.
